About

Portraits for the People was founded by the owners and operators of BK Studios Designer Photography, in Victoria, B.C. It is an organization dedicated to the preservation of family history, through providing families with professional portraits. It is the mission of the organization that each an every family have the right and opportunity to preserve their own unique family history. We believe in the fundamental human right to not only record your family history, but to preserve it.

Through organized events and community nominations, the professional photographers at BK Studios provide each family with a free family portrait session in a fun and relaxed environment. Each family takes home a framed family portrait to proudly display in their home(s).

For many families, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Many of the families have been affected by poverty, divorce and violence. It is their first opportunity to see their family in its new form.

For some of them, seeing their “new” family portrait is exactly that-a new beginning.

The “Big Picture”

Portraits for the People is dedicated to providing our service not only to families in third world countries and impoverished nations, but to the families in our own backyard. It is our intention to be as far reaching with our philanthropy as possible. Across our country, and across its borders. We need your help to achieve this goal. Corporate Philanthropy isn’t about just writing a cheque. It’s about showing up- being there, not only for the betterment of others and the societies we live in but for your own personal growth. We believe in our goal and we hope you do too.

“Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.”
- Helen Keller
